Ubrique, named after the famed leather village in Andalusia, is an ode to Spanish leather (known as in perfumery). Originally a scented oil rubbed into new leather to soften its smokey, animal aroma, peau d'espagne made the jump to fine fragrance in the early 20th century, where it was an intoxicating fixture for decades. In modern times, Spanish leathers have largely fallen out of favor in the fragrance world, so we decided that it was time to give them their proper due at Barrister and Mann.
Our version of this storied classic is a rich, tangy composition with notes of smokey leather, vetiver, rosewood, geranium, sandalwood, bergamot, tonka bean, and musk. It's comforting and manly, with a lovely, enveloping character that your dad or granddad might have worn down to the cocktail bar in his youth.
